Sugar, flour and coffee!
There was no shortage of these staples of American life in the Western Virginia Village of Parkersburg 140 years ago, when 30 year-old Edmund Pendleton Chancellor added another important staple - Fire Insurance.
The year was 1862 and Chancellor's Fire Insurance business, the first of its kind in the progressive little Ohio River Village with which the Chancellor Insurance Agency was to grow and prosper.
The confidence shown the Chancellor Insurance Agency by its clients and the insuring public has made it possible for the Agency to operate 140 years.
