About Chancellor Insurance
Sugar, flour and coffee! There was no shortage of these staples of American life in the Western Virginia Village of Parkersburg 150 years ago when 30-year-old Edmund Pendleton Chancellor added another important staple – Fire Insurance.
The year was 1862, and Chancellor’s Fire Insurance business was the first of its kind in the progressive little Ohio river village with which the Chancellor Insurance Agency was to grow and prosper. The Chancellor name in time would become synonymous with protecting the oil & gas industry.
James Shriver took over as owner of the agency in 1982 and is currently presiding over the 150-year-old agency. The agency is known as West Virginia’s Oldest Stock Insurance Agency. Jim has spent his entire insurance career focused on the oil & gas industry and his expertise is second to none. Joseph Shriver, vice president, joined the agency in 2005 specializing in workers’ compensation and oil & gas insurance; Sherry Lowers has been agency manager for 30 years handling day to day operations, Kathleen Edman has provided excellence in customer service with over 15 years of insurance background, and Bridget Marquis manages the agency’s personal lines business.
